How is the ventilation in the apartment organized?

Let's consider the ventilation system on the example of an ordinary apartment in a multi-storey building.

As a rule, this is natural ventilation. Its work is based on elementary physics. Due to the difference in pressure, air from the street enters the apartment, flows through it and is discharged through the ventilation shaft. The air enters the ventilation shaft through the ventilation grilles, which are located in the kitchen and the bathroom. Supply ventilation is responsible for supplying the air, while exhaust ventilation is responsible for exhausting the air. Proper functioning of the ventilation is possible if both systems work smoothly.
Supply ventilation
The fresh air supply from the outside must be constant. This can be organized either through a ventilator and micro-ventilation or through air inlets. In old wooden window frames, the air supply was realized through gaps or "leaky seals". Such constructions were massively used in the past, now they have been replaced by PVC windows. Undoubted advantages of this solution - do not create drafts, do not let in noise and dust. Keeping them open or in microventilation mode is inconvenient, because it levels their pluses, and in the closed position does not create air inflow. The solution to create an air inlet when the window is closed is to install an air inlet valve.
Exhaust ventilation
Exhaust ventilation works if the air supply is properly organized and there are no obstacles to the air flow. Obstacles can be improperly installed interior doors of the apartment, which do not allow the necessary volume of air to pass through and improper operation of the ventilation shaft. Correct installation of interior doors implies the presence of a gap between the door and the floor of at least 1 cm, or overflow dampers. You can check the work of the ventilation shaft with a simple test. Open a window, lean a piece of paper against the ventilation hole, and if it sticks to it, the system is functioning correctly.
What does an improperly functioning ventilation system lead to?
The air is not entering or leaving the apartment. This creates a number of problems: carbon dioxide concentration increases, air humidity increases, unpleasant odors persist in the apartment. The results are poor health and discomfort of the residents, condensation, mold growth. All this creates unacceptable living conditions.
